Status Report

Students in the Federal Income Tax class will have an excellent opportunity to develop or sharpen their "tax sense" which will benefit them, their clients, and their families for their lifetime.  It is no wonder that the course is required for Accounting and Finance majors, yet it is also an excellent elective for any student planning to live and work in the United States!

The major sections of the course include the following areas:

  • Overview
  • Gross Income and Exclusions
  • Deductions and Credits
  • Property Transactions
  • Success in the class is largely determined by the student's effort out of class.  Completion of assigned homework assignments is essential.  While students are neither required nor expected to know all the information contained in the tax code and related provisions, and while the sheer volume of material at times can seem overwhelming, the student must constantly work to master as much of the material as possible by reading text materials, studying examples, working homework assignments, and participating in class discussions.

The syllabus for the course will be provided students on the first day of class.  Links are provided in case one is lost and needs to be replaced.

Obviously, I hope each student in the class learns beyond their potential and finds the information to be useful and relevant.  I look forward to working with each of you this semester.
